The Contour Design Shuttle Pro V2
When attending The Photography Show 2016 we came across the Contour Design stand and the Shuttle Pro V2. Having been looking at the PusherLabs MiniMal for some time for photo editing I was intrigued at something that was offering similar functionality but in a different format.
The PusherLabs MiniMal is a Audio Midi Board which has been relabelled to show Lightroom editing controls. PusherLabs then provide software to map the Lightroom controls to the Midi board. Contour’s idea is different, and is something not initially directed at photo editing, more video. This is what it looks like:
As you can see it is quite neat and compact, offering a one handed solution. At The Photography Show we spoke to the guys and worked with them there to kind all of the keyboard shortcuts to set something up that would work better for photo editing. The idea behind the Shuttle Pro V2 is a one handed use, we haven’t quite found this so far, with things like cropping etc. The flow of editing we have found to be improved; we like the fact that you can edit anything on the basic panel using one hand and keep your eye on the image, while having more finite adjustments with the scroll wheel.
Overall we are impressed so far, editing appears to be quicker and easier, with only a few buttons on the controller mapped out. Contour have a simple to use control panel to map the buttons as you see fit, so it works around you. They also provide small inserts (pre-printed, or print your own) which can can pop under the buttons, although I’m finding I’ve got used to the layout and keep my eye on the picture.
