We decided after our recent little play around with some head shots to give you an idea of how to set up the lighting for such shoots.
We decided to keep things simple with the use of only Speedlights.
We use the Yongnuo YN568EX II speedlights and had four of them in this set up. Two in evenly light the background and another two to provide the key light and to fill in the shadows.
Using an online diagram builder we can help show you how we set this up. The two rear Speedlights have no light modifiers on and were set to a wide angle to give a good spread of light. You have to be careful with this type of non-modified light, as some of it can ‘spill’ back onto your subject.
The main light has a Westcott Rapid box on it, the second fill light had a shoot through umbrella.
The rear lights will provide the ‘high key’ look or a shadowed background if required.
The main light is normally stronger than the fill light. In this instance we had the subject lightly turned more towards the main light.
This is the type of image you will get from this type of set up.
This image is of Nathan and we have used them to update our current About Us Page.
